The Wexner Center

The piece I observed at the Wexner Center today, October 4th, was "Soft Palate" by Martin Arnold. This was a cartoon video piece supplemented by music. In the video you see flashes of different images: white cartoon hands, brown cartoon shoes, a chair, red robe, and a mouse-like head. The music sounded like a mixture of snores and whistles. Although all parts of the image were never seen at once, you are able to piece the image together, with clues from the music, and deduce the image of a sleeping cartoon mouse. This was a very "trippy" piece and put me in some what of a trance. The sounds at first were annoying but as they stopped being as noticeable, they just sat in the back of the mind. The big picture of this piece seems to be an exploration of the trance-like dream state.

A snapshot of the video

Also, for this week, I chose to post a video by Twenty One Pilots, an up and coming band from the Columbus area. They tend to take dark lyrics and pair them with up-beat, lighter sounds. Here's one of my favorites, titled "Trapdoor."
